What a CPA Really Wants from You (to Refer You Business.)
by Daryl Logullo
_____________________________________________________
I'll let you in on a little secret that could flood
you with more consistent CPA referrals.
No theories. Just cold-hard-reality-check, truth.
And the truth can hurt.
But I expect your promise in return.
So if you're into self-pity, or you're comfortable
with your business, or you have your own
narrow-minded opinions, or you whine and
complain (sob, sob) that you've tried CPA
referrals before--- (sob, sob)--- and they don't
work--- (boo, cry)--- spare us both the
misery: Quit reading.
Click the delete icon, and quit now.
On the other hand, if you're after more success, more free
time, and more income for yourself, then "more" is
indeed the key word here. And [more] CPA referrals
come from grasping one simple word: Process.
Process, as in:
"What does your investment, insurance or
legal process involve?," snarls a skeptical,
cautious CPA, silently to himself, as he stares
at you over his corned beef sandwich.
Smoke signals? Uh, yes.
Heck, I'll bet if he was still alive today,
faithful Indian companion Tonto would
hear the cry, gallop in, tug the reins of
his trusted paint, Scout, dismount like a
flying gymnast, and whisper quietly into
your ear:
"Kimosabe, you not get all the CPA referrals you deserve.
CPA-person not understand your process."
Smart, faithful, matter-of-fact Jay Silverheels.
Just like today's accounting professional.
And you know what else?
CPA's are committed to 'process-based' accounting. The problem
is, no one has ever attempted to explain this principle to you
because they don't get it themselves or they've never
allowed it to sink into their thick skull.
That is, until now.
Proof, you say? Let's look:
From AICPA:
"Process-based accounting is a critical tool.
It enables you to anticipate financial
results and respond to it, thereby creating
a sustainable competitive edge."
From The Kellogg School at Northwestern Univ.:
"Professionals who evaluate the performance
systems of their clients are performing
accounting analyses process."
From The Anderson School at UCLA:
"Have analytical problem-solving skills
directly relating to critical business
issues. Exercise sound judgment."
From Univ. of Michigan Business School:
"Generate, analyze and use financial
information for clients. Accounting helps
evaluate alternative choice decisions."
Regardless of your opinion about higher education,
business schools, or "college," did you notice anything?
After this quick commercial break I'll
reveal it to you in The Key Concept---

The Key Concept.
Process. As in 'Your' process.
Say to yourself: "My process, as in---
how I help clients with investments,
insurance, porfolio management, asset
allocation, fund research, revocable
trusts, annuity strategies, LTC,
life policies, advanced estate
planning---
or anything else I do, today?"
Quit kidding yourself:
You'll never in a zillion years get a
consistent flow of referrals from CPAs
until they:
1. Know about your process.
2. Understand how your process works.
They'll just keep ignoring you like the fat,
slow kids in elementary school.
The single best way for you to increase your
CPA referrals is to define, create, market, and promote your
Process.
Am I getting through to you?
Let me say it another way: Stop marketing and promoting
the way you're doing it now. You're longer in the investment,
insurance, or legal business. You're in the marketing
business first, and the process business second.
"Process" is the compelling, hypnotic love language of
today's CPA. And it brings you new referrals.
--- Keep looking Up, Daryl
